Today, we are once again looking at a postcard – one that was kindly made available to me by Edmond Kern.
The card was sent to a young man named Constant Georges in the French town of Fraize, in the Vosges mountains. The sender was presumably the recipient’s lover.
The encrypted message consists of digits and letters. Hyphens appear to mark the spaces between words. My guess is that a simple substitution cipher was used.
Unfortunately, parts of the ciphertext are difficult to read. For this reason, I have provided a link to a higher-resolution version of the postcard here.
Can a reader decipher this message?
